It seems that we are always looking to the future and saying “when this happens I will be happy.”
But the problem with this thinking is that we don’t take into account the difficulties that come with what we want.
We want to be married but don’t realize the new issues that come with it. Now that we are married we want children. Being married isn’t enough anymore.
Or we want a nicer car or bigger house. We are never satisfied.
We want what we don’t have in the moment because we aren’t satisfied with what we have now.
But if we are not content with our current situation we are telling Christ He isn’t enough. We are telling Him that we need something besides Him to be whole.
It’s not that being married, having children or a house are terrible things to want, we just elevate them above Christ.
We will never truly be satisfied until we allow Christ to be the center of our lives. We have to allow Him to be everything to us regardless of our situation.
What would happen if we allowed Him to be the focus of our lives? How different our lives would be if we allowed nothing to stand in the way of following Christ.
If we aren’t willing to give up anything to follow Christ, we can’t follow Him. We can’t hold onto anything, not even our dreams. We have to lay everything down at His feet and ask “what’s next?”
It sounds simple, but it’s not easy. You have to understand that God always has a better plan for us than we could ever come up with ourselves. It will look different than what we planned, but it will be better.
It’s difficult when we don’t know the entire plan, but that’s not our job. Our job is to obey and follow. We must learn to be content with following Christ without knowing where we are going.
I can’t promise that you will do all the things you have ever dreamed of if you follow Christ. But I can tell you that you will make an impact on people and this world that you could never do by yourself.
We must be willing to surrender everything if we want Jesus to truly work in our lives.
Are you willing to give up everything you have for Christ? What do you need to lay down at his feet?
If there is anything standing in the way of you following Christ, get rid of it. If you don’t know what is holding you back, pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal it to you.
Your life is too important to spend your days doing meaningless things.
